On Thursday, March 25, 2021, Lynda.com will migrate to LinkedIn Learning, doubling the number of courses available to library patrons, from 7,000 to over 16,000!
What do I need to know?
On the day of the migration, March 25, Lynda.com/LinkedIn Learning is expected to be unavailable for approximately 24 hours. Don’t worry! As long as you sign into the new site using the same library card barcode and PIN, your course history and progress will be transferred to LinkedIn Learning.
After the upgrade is complete, we will share a link to the new site, where you can activate your account on your first visit.
You do not need a LinkedIn account to use LinkedIn Learning. LinkedIn Learning will collect no personally identifiable information (names, email addresses, etc.) – you just need your library card number and PIN!
Save your certificates of completion!
Because LinkedIn Learning will not save any of your personal information, certificates for completed courses will no longer display the user’s name. If you would like to save your personalized certificates of completion, please download them before March 25.
Haven’t I heard about this before?
Probably! The move from Lynda.com to LinkedIn Learning was originally scheduled for late 2019. That move would have required library users to create a LinkedIn profile in order to use the new service. In response to concerns about privacy raised by the library community, LinkedIn postponed the move while they worked on a solution that did not collect personally identifiable information.
The American Library Association recently praised LinkedIn Learning’s decision to protect library users’ privacy, and the Bucks County Free Library is pleased to be able to continue providing this popular resource!
