Has life stressed you out? School, work, health, keeping up with chores, money, weight, pandemics, etc. Then Summer might be a good time to start a mindfulness routine, individually or as a family, that helps you chill out!
Did you know that practicing mindfulness can actually change your brain and benefit you physically, cognitively, and psychologically? Yup! How cool is that!
But how can the library help you be more mindful? First things first, you can check out all the amazing activities we’re doing with our Mindfulness Master badge! The badge has ideas for activities that can jump start your mindfulness routine. We also recommend checking out some titles on cloud Library to read up on mindfulness.
Mindfulness can mean something different for everyone. You could look up mediation tapes and try those. Or maybe a book on mindfulness practices will help you think about them differently.
One of our favorite ways to be mindful is to go on a mindfulness walk. We know it’s hot, so try walking in the morning or at dusk. Instead of wearing headphones, listen to the world outside. Try to hear all those different sounds as you walk around your neighborhood or town. Try to feel the breeze and heat and take in all the sights.
Or maybe you would like to try yoga. Check out Hoopla for streaming on demand videos that you can stretch along with from home or anywhere from your mobile device. Or do something you’ve been avoiding, like organizing a space. This is also a great way to practice self-care and get some control over your home. Head on over to your library and check out the non-fiction section (648 in nonfiction) for some great books on decluttering and organizing, or on yoga (613.7 in nonfiction)
These are just some ideas to help you keep your cool this summer and hopefully help you feel happier, healthier and more mindful while also proudly earning your Mindfulness Master badge!
