The Bucks County Free Library, headquartered in Doylestown PA, is looking for an experienced library manager to head our Bensalem branch.
Bensalem’s patrons depend on the library for a variety of services. If you like your library busy and if you prefer to manage by walking around, this is the position for you. This is not a desk job! This position is a good fit for someone who loves helping people and engaging with the community. Service to children and families is a high strategic priority in Bucks County, and the library offers an interactive pre-school play area to young children and their families. The ideal candidate will love engaging with and providing services to children and families.
The Bensalem branch offers passport services. The Library Manager will oversee the passport office, which includes processing new applications and providing photos services. Additionally, you will supervise a small team of passport staff.
The Library Manager works within the larger framework of the library system’s strategic plan and make decisions based on established standards, policies, procedures, and guidelines. As the branch librarian, the Library Manager staffs the public floor and gives directional help and high levels of reference, reader’s advisory, and technology help to people of all ages.

Job Summary:
Manages the daily operations of a branch library. Makes sure that daily and long-term priorities and deadlines are met. Makes decisions based on established library system standards, policies, procedures, and guidelines.
Serves as the branch librarian. Staffs the public floor. Supervises day-to-day work of employees. Oversees and directs the flow of incoming and outgoing library materials. Evaluates the branch collection and analyzes circulation trends using standard evaluation tools. Removes outdated or unused materials based on expertise and results from standard weeding tools. Works collaboratively with senior management and support staff to ensure that volunteer programs, children’s services, information technology, facilities, and collection management activities are successfully implemented.
Required to complete Passport Agent and Facility Manager certification.
Minimum two evenings per week, every other Saturday, occasional Sundays, and schedule changes as needed. Required to be on call or cover additional hours as needed or as scheduled. This is an FLSA exempt position.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Requires a bachelor’s degree. Master’s in Library Science degree preferred.
- With master’s degree: Five years of progressively responsible public library or customer service experience, including two years direct staff supervision. With bachelor’s degree: Eight years of progressively responsible public library or customer service experience, including two years direct staff supervision.
- Must have current driver’s license, insurance, and own transportation or ability to travel among many library sites.
- Applicant must provide on date of hire the following three required clearances: PA State Police Criminal Record Check; PA Child Abuse History Clearance; and FBI fingerprint-based background check.
Schedule: Full-time variable schedule, including weekdays, evenings, and weekends.
Starting Salary: $58,656 – $61,534 DOQ
