Appointed by the Bucks County Commissioners, the 7-member Bucks County Free Library Board oversees and governs the Bucks County Free Library system of seven branches in Bensalem, Doylestown, Langhorne, Levittown, Perkasie, Quakertown, and Yardley-Makefield.  In addition, the Board oversees and governs the larger Pennsylvania library district and system of Bucks County public libraries, which includes 11 additional locations. In its role as system and district board, the Board ensures that the County library system provides effective coordinated services to all members, such as the County wide shared catalog, centralized technology services, cooperative purchasing, and the summer reading program.

Library board members serve without remuneration and are responsible for making sure libraries provide the highest possible service levels to Bucks County residents.
